Katherine Haik of Franklinton, Louisiana was crowned Miss Teen USA on August 22nd at Atlantis, Paradise Island Resort in The Bahamas. Not only was Katherine the youngest contestant competing for the title, the 15-year-old sophomore in high school also became the youngest teen in history to win the crown.

Katherine’s win created massive buzz in her small Louisiana hometown, which has a population of only 4,000 people. The tight-knit community held a viewing party of the pageant at a local restaurant to support Katherine where over 100 friends and family came to watch. Katherine used her charm on stage by encouraging the audience to clap along as she sang the United States’ President’s Song and recited all 43 of our country’s leaders in order.

After a full week of media appearances and press events in New York City, Katherine returned home to continue school at Franklinton High where she maintains a 4.0 GPA and was recently selected as a Student Council Representative. Despite an already packed schedule of extracurricular activities, Katherine is ready for the new responsibilities and exciting opportunities that come with being Miss Teen USA.

Katherine genuinely enjoys being involved in her community and school. A lover of all sports, Katherine has been playing basketball and softball for the better part of her life. She is proud to boast about her first over the fence homerun that she hit this past season. Katherine, a passionate dancer since she was 3-years-old, is on The Breaking Pointe competitive dance team in Franklinton and is also a member of her high school’s dance team. After enduring several injuries as an athlete, Katherine developed an interest in sports medicine and hopes to eventually pursue a career in the medical field.

Inspired by her grandmother, Katherine has played the piano for five years and incorporates art class into her regular curriculum. Since she began modeling, Katherine participated in New Orleans Fashion Week for four seasons, was featured in an editorial for Scene Magazine, and has done print work for many designers.

Katherine plans to devote her reign to working with children who have developmental disabilities. As Miss Louisiana Teen USA, she worked with the Special Olympics in her state and the Very Special Miss Louisiana Pageant, among other events and organizations dedicated to this cause. Throughout her reign and beyond, Katherine looks forward to partnering with Best Buddies, a nonprofit that creates opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the workplace and community.
